Nesta quinta-feira (2), o Global Poker Index (GPI) e o The Hendon Mob anunciaram os finalistas em 17 categorias para a edição 2023 do Global Poker Awards, o “Oscar do Poker”. Cinco pessoas receberam indicações em mais de uma delas: Jamie Kerstetter, Espen Uhlen Jorstad, Ethan Yau “Rampage”, Marle Spragg e Stephen Song. No total, 29 estatuetas serão entregues em cerimônia que acontecerá no dia 3 de março, em Las Vegas.

Dona de duas estatuetas, Kerstetter defenderá seu título de Melhor Personalidade do Twitter, além de ter sido novamente indicada na categoria de Melhor Narradora. Já Jorstad foi indicado por sua performance no Main Event, bem como na categoria Breakout Player, que também tem Ethan Yau como um dos indicados. Além dela, o “Rampage” concorrerá na de Melhor Vlogger.
Da mesma forma, Marle Spragg recebeu duas nomeações: Melhor Conteúdo de Mídia Audiovisual com “Video for the popular Solvers” e Melhor Personalidade do Twitter, onde competirá com a duas vezes campeã Kerstetter. Ostentando dois troféus, conquistados nas categorias Jogador do Ano GPI e Jogador Médio do Ano GPI, Stephen Song vai atrás de mais dois. Ele concorre em Melhor performance em mesa final e Oponente mais difícil (escolha dos jogadores).

Entre os vencedores anteriores do Global Poker Awards foram indicados nomes como Stephen Chidwick, Paul Campbell, Mori Eskandani, Alex Foxen, Daniel Negreanu, Brad Owen, Jeff Platt, Matt Savage, Nick Schulman, Benjamin Spragg, Robbie Strazynski e Lex Veldhuis. Além deles, Phil Galfond e Phil Ivey também se encontram na disputa.
A votação continua aberta para o Global Poker Awards Fans Choice Awards, na qual os fãs do esporte da mente podem enviar suas seleções da primeira rodada em quatro categorias: Melhor Mão, Melhor Troféu, Live Stream Favorita e Personalidade do Poker. A votação do primeiro turno termina na segunda-feira, 6 de fevereiro. Os quatro finalistas serão anunciados no dia seguinte e os fãs serão novamente convidados a votar.
